Inflammation is what disease is all about. The simple truth is that disease dwells on an unhealthy organism and inflammation is the feedback our body gives us telling us something is wrong. There are unforeseen actions that can cause inflammation, even disability, but our ability to heal and be mobile again still lies in our general condition, desire and our ability to eliminate, reduce or manage inflammation.
Our ability to fight off any disease is all about our ability to control inflammation. Respiratory inflammation from cigarette smoke, gastrointestinal inflammation from bad eating habits, mental inflammation from relationships and work can all be debilitating. There is even overuse or injury inflammation as the opposed to sedentary disuse atrophy causing inflammation. Acute, sub acute, chronic or degenerative take your pick? They all have one major question. What is your unique bio-chemical inability or ability to deal with inflammation? In Eastern Medicine you could fit into one or more of these categories. 1 No inflammation, perfect balance, Ying and yang are equal everywhere in the body and mind. 2. Inflammation with quick relief of symptoms, decreased pain and regained mobility Excess Yang/ Strong Yin healing quickly 3. Chronic inflammation, possible fever, swelling, rage, pain, leading to excess yang which alternatively can weigh on a balanced yin, the nurturing part of that person. Excess Yang/ Depleted Yin Getting well or just back to par can be slow and tough. Dealing with inflammation in a timely manner is something that we could all do better with. Some pharmacy dramatically reduces inflammation but usually at a cost to the rest of the body. NSAID's xxxxxx be careful! Because I deal mostly with musculoskeletal inflammation I have my therapy of Choice No. 1 Ice packs, cups, wraps, cold fluid pumps whatever cold it is minus a freezer burn is the best therapy possible if applied correctly. Please see "forms" on the above tabs to pull up and print icing instructions. A simple rule is to use ice with any sharpness or pain in a small area. Heat can feel great on the skin but underneath inflammation is gathering, apply ice as soon after the injury as possible unless bleeding needs to be controlled. For most musculoskeletal conditions the old acronym RICE applies. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Compression usually means mild pressure with an ace bandage. Check the circulation by color, if bluing occurs reduce compression. Fish oils are a very common supplement taken today and it has definitely helped the general health of many people. A green drink once a day like Nano-greens can do much to curve blood sugar, increase general well being and reduce inflammation. A good multi-vitamin is a must and things like CO Q10 have been isolated in a healthy heart with low cardiac risk.
