Low back pain

I feel its import to preface the following with general rules of inflammation.

Number 1. Almost every adverse health condition that can happen to the human body involves inflammation; we try to controlling it, reducing it and eliminating it.

As your physician my goal is to understand it, diagnosis it, and treat it with good results.

My prospective has a Science, Art and Philosophy from both western and eastern influences. The following information comes from my twenty plus years of experience and is founded on a lifetime of devotion and study to helping people get well, be well and improve the quality to their life.

There are about eighteen different things that can adversely affect the low back causing pain, immobility and degeneration.

Eighty percent of these conditions will respond well to conservative treatment over a six week period. Some can have immediate relief with Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Physiotherapy. Others will heal on their own over time and some will start a continuous yearly cycle of pain and disability. And last some will have to deal with major pain management issues for the rest of their lives and might even need surgery.

You are unique from your genetic disposition to injuries and life style choices.  Many low back conditions are handicapped by excess weight and lack of core strength leading to longer treatment programs and pre mature disabilities and joint surface degeneration.  Most low back patients have been sliding deeper into weight issues and instability for years.

Taking a pro active stand to these fundamental issues is important to attain long lasting results.

Our first goal is to reduce the intensity, frequency and duration of your pain.

On a 0-10 scale, once your pain is down to a 2-3 we can start being more proactive with stretches and strengthening which creates stability.

Stability is your best insurance in reducing or eliminating your low back pain from re-occurring.

Please see the Inflammation, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Physiotherapy pages in this web site to understand the treatments we offer.

To create a diagnosis we must take a thorough case history and do a good exam

I usually start by watching my patients move and walk as they come back to a treatment room. Your gait or symmetry and balance when walking is reflective of the primary cause and its compensations.

An exam consist of looking at specific posture points, inspection of the area of pain, measuring range of motion, neurological test, orthopedic test, static palpation, motion palpation, weight bearing and non weight bearing spinal analysis, percussion, instrumentation, exam above or below the area of involvement and many times reviewing past exams, x-rays, MRI's, CT's and therapies. I will even call your old doctor if you have just moved to Denver.

Having good foot support is primary to reduce compression through whole spine. Your first shock absorbing system is the foot and its dynamics is amazing when aligned and functioning correctly.  A good foot arch support can help a low back problem.
